The Bitter Herbs by Mark Troy

The next book up for Tinsel Road is The Bitter Herbs: five short plays depicting fractured Jewish life in America for the Passover season; written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Mark Troy.

This collection of five short plays, all theatrical in size and presentation, are all center around Jewish family life, customs, holidays, traditions, and even some “tsuris.” The pieces represent a small part of Troy’s work for the theater, but demonstrate his clear personal view of the human condition in the Jewish family from different age groups; parents, children, siblings, and married couples. There is something for every member of the family and for those who just happen to know a Jewish person somewhere.

THE PLOT centers on a daughter dealing with her neurotic Jewish mother's demanding demands. THE BASIC 7 reveals a married couple who realizes they don't need to spice up their lives -- or is it too late? In HOOD RATZ, siblings find their long lost brother and are shocked when he is not exactly what they "ordered." JOIN THE CLUB explores newlyweds who attempt to make the ultimate sacrifice of love for each other before their wedding day, only to find out they might have gone too far. THE MISGUIDED PRODUCTION shows miscommunication as it occurs during an interview for a pseudo naked production of "Fiddler on the Roof."
