Malevolent Books to document the Undocumented

(August 1, 2017 – Santa Monica, CA) Quattro Media has acquired the rights to the book UNDOCUMENTED from author Harold Fernandez, MD. The book will be published by the company’s Malevolent Books imprint on an accelerated schedule and will be released on Labor Day in celebration of the contribution of undocumented labor to American society.

Undocumented by Dr. Harold Fernandez is a story of inexhaustible love, unfailing determination, and human compassion. This is the quintessential tale of an immigrant family in America. Harold’s epic journey brought him from the turbulent violence and drug wars of Medellin, Colombia to the charm and beauty of the mythic classrooms, libraries, and laboratories of Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. On his way to fulfilling his childhood dream of helping others, Harold and his family endured the struggles of living in the margins of American society as undocumented immigrants.

“Dr. Fernandez is the standard bearer for triumph of the human spirit. His success is our success. His success is an American success. He represents the absolute best of what the American system can provide to those willing to work to achieve. I’m thrilled to be bringing his story to the forefront of the discourse on immigration,” noted Jim Strader, Publisher and CEO of Quattro Media. “Most of our ancestors were immigrants. They built bridges and made roads. They created railroads and built buildings. They were the working-class foundation from which all successes sprang and should be applauded for their contributions.”

In the darkness of the early hours of October 27, 1978, my brother and I huddled in the bow of a small motorboat fighting against the ravages of the Atlantic Ocean. The darkness, the solitude of the night, and the ferocious movements of the boat were too much for us to handle. We all thought that we would die. I prayed and begged the lord for another day so that I could see my parents.

Once a safe and humble community, Barrio Antioquia – a town in Medelin, Colombia – was now plagued by unemployment and overrun by gangs, drug mules, and hired assassins. Realizing Medelin held no future for their family, Harold Fernandez’s parents travelled illegally to New York to work in sweatshops, leaving their sons behind temporarily. Years later, Harold and his brother risked their lives for the opportunity to join their parents in America.

Harold’s epic journey brought him from the turbulent violence and drug wars of Medellin to the charm and beauty of the mythic classrooms, libraries and laboratories of Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. On his way to fulfilling his childhood dream of helping others, Harold endured the struggles of living in the margins as an undocumented immigrant.

This is a story of inexhaustible love, unfailing determination, and human compassion. It shows that in America all dreams are possible.
